New greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory results for metropolitan Washington show emissions decreased by 10 percent between 2005 and 2015, despite continued population and economic growth during that period. This puts the region just halfway to its goal of reducing GHG emissions by 20 percent below 2005 levels by 2020; the region’s long-term goal is to reduce emissions by 80 percent by 2050.

The TPB approved more than $1.2 million in funding for four bicycle and pedestrian projects in Maryland through the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP). The TAP program provides funding to transportation projects other than traditional highway construction, including bicycle, pedestrian, trail, and Safe Routes to School projects.

At it’s July meeting, the TPB continued its ongoing discussions about how to support projects, programs, and policies to implement the seven initiatives it endorsed in the winter. At the meeting, board members held an open discussion of ideas from each jurisdiction with the goal of finding out what it would take to implement the seven ideas throughout the region.
