Last April, the Transportation Planning Board’s Commuter Connections program debuted new mobile apps making it possible for thousands of Washington area commuters to find carpool partners in their area using web-enabled smartphones or tablets.

By the end of 2015, nearly 180 bus stops along some of the region’s busiest bus corridors will feature new electronic arrival signs telling passengers in real time when their bus is due to arrive.

In 2014 the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments identified regional infrastructure as its focus and held a series on COG’s main areas of expertise such as transportation water energy and public safety communications. Officials planned the series to identify policy advocacy and outreach actions around key infrastructure needs.

During its December meeting, members of the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) voted unanimously to elect its officers for 2015. District of Columbia Council Chairman Phil Mendelson will serve as TPB Chairman. Alexandria City Councilman Timothy Lovain and Rockville Mayor Bridget Donnell Newton will serve as Vice Chairs of the TPB.

When it adopted the Regional Transportation Priorities Plan in January, the Transportation Planning Board highlighted a number of key strategies and priorities for achieving the region's long-term transportation goals. Throughout 2014, the TPB and its partner agencies worked to implement those strategies and priorities in notable ways, as told through the digital pages of this publication over the past twelve months.

Nearly two-dozen community leaders from around the Washington region gathered recently for the Transportation Planning Board’s thirteenth Community Leadership Institute (CLI) to learn about and discuss how transportation decisions are made in the region and how community leaders can become more involved in the decision-making process.
