As metropolitan Washington’s designated recipient of the Enhanced Mobility Program, a federal program to enhance transportation for seniors and individuals with disabilities, the Transportation Planning Board (TPB) approved nearly $8 million in funding for a slate of projects proposed by local governments and nonprofits.

The Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) today elected Roger Berliner, Vice President of the Montgomery County Council, as its Chairman for 2016. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie of the District of Columbia and Supervisor Matthew Letourneau of Loudoun County were elected as vice chairmen of the board.

We have recently seen news coverage of poor air quality in cities including Beijing, New Delhi, Milan, Paris, and Tehran. Bad air quality has prompted the cities to take a mix of actions to clean the air, including closing schools and businesses and placing limits on driving. This prompts the question, how are we doing in the metropolitan Washington region?

One hundred and ninety six countries reached a comprehensive climate agreement on Saturday, December 12 in Paris, France. This agreement calls for stopping the growth of greenhouse gas emissions as soon as possible, followed by rapid reductions thereafter.
