Funding to maintain transit has been a hot topic recently. As a region, substantial amounts of money are spent on maintaining transit systems. Just like potholes in the roads, buses, railcars, and stations also need upkeep. And it’s not just about Metro. The Washington region has many more small and large transit agencies and providers that serve the public. In order to get the funding right, it helps to have data to assess what transit providers need the most to maintain a state of good repair.​

Nicholas (Nick) Majett, Prince George’s County Chief Administrative Officer, has been a COG member since May 2014, when he first joined Prince George’s County government. He is the Chairman of the COG Chief Administrative Officers (CAO) Committee, which is a committee composed of city and county managers from COG member local governments.

If you had to choose 6-10 projects, programs, or policies to move the region closer to achieving its long-term transportation goals, what would go on the list? Eight-car trains for Metro? A new highway bridge across the Potomac River? More bike-lanes and pedestrian paths? The TPB’s recently reestablished Long-Range Plan Task Force is aiming to answer that question, and the group met for the first time on April 10.

The TPB’s March 29 meeting was dominated by action items—nine in all. One was the board’s endorsement of a new approach to analyzing equity in the region’s long-range transportation plan. Others included formally establishing the TPB’s Long-Range Plan Task Force and approving a work plan and budget for FY 2018. The meeting was originally scheduled to take place March 15 but was rescheduled due to inclement weather.

COG’s Climate, Energy, and Environment Policy Committee (CEEPC) developed a plan to meet the region’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction goals. The third edition of the Regional Climate and Energy Action Plan, adopted by the committee in March 2017, offers a variety of voluntary and flexible actions for local jurisdictions to implement between 2017-2020 to help reduce GHG emissions.
