Kanathur N. (Kanti) Srikanth, a well-respected leader in transportation planning with thorough knowledge of the National Capital Region, has been named the Director of Transportation Planning for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG). Srikanth is currently the Director of Transportation Planning for the Northern Virginia District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). He will succeed the late Ronald F. Kirby, one of the region’s leading experts on transportation planning, who served in this position from 1987 to 2013.

Phil Mendelson was first elected to the Council of the District of Columbia in November of 1998 as an At-Large Councilmember. Stuart Freudberg, a recognized regional leader on the environment, homeland security, and other key issues, has been named Deputy Executive Director of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments by Executive Director Chuck Bean. Freudberg, a 34-year veteran of the nonprofit association of D.C area governments, will oversee various COG departments and offices, including environmental programs, public safety and health, homeland security, finance, and contracts and purchasing.
