Introducing Collaboration in Action, COG's video series hosted by Executive Director Clark Mercer. The series spotlights COG's work with member jurisdictions and private, nonprofit, and civic organizations on a wide variety of programs and initiatives that improve the quality of life for everyone in our DMV region. Come along as Clark takes you behind the scenes of several of our initiatives, spreading the word about the value of regional partnership and highlighting the leaders and experts in our network that are making a positive impact in our communities.

COG Podcast

Prior to Collaboration in Action, COG produced a podcast, Think Regionally, to raise awareness about metropolitan Washington's biggest challenges and focus on solutions. The podcast, which was hosted by former Washington Post columnist Robert McCartney, featured local government, business, and non-profit leaders talking about a variety of timely topics, including the region's economy, racial equity, transportation, housing, and climate change.

    2014 COG Series Provides In-Depth Look at Region's Infrastructure

    COG Infrastructure Series

    In 2014 the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments identified regional infrastructure as its focus and held a series on COG’s main areas of expertise such as transportation water energy and public safety communications. Officials planned the series to identify policy advocacy and outreach actions around key infrastructure needs.

    Transportation Planning Board Elects New Leadership for 2015

    During its December meeting, members of the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) voted unanimously to elect its officers for 2015. District of Columbia Council Chairman Phil Mendelson will serve as TPB Chairman. Alexandria City Councilman Timothy Lovain and Rockville Mayor Bridget Donnell Newton will serve as Vice Chairs of the TPB.

    2014 Sees Notable Progress in Achieving Regional Transportation Goals

    When it adopted the Regional Transportation Priorities Plan in January, the Transportation Planning Board highlighted a number of key strategies and priorities for achieving the region's long-term transportation goals.     At its Annual Membership and Awards Luncheon, COG honored Prince George’s County Council Member Todd Turner with its highest honor for an elected official, the Elizabeth and David Scull Metropolitan Public Service Award.     Nearly two-dozen community leaders from around the Washington region gathered recently for the Transportation Planning Board’s thirteenth Community Leadership Institute (CLI) to learn about and discuss how transportation decisions are made in the region and how community leaders can become more involved in the decision-making process.

    U.S. Department of Energy Recognizes COG and Area Governments for Leadership in Shaping a More Sustainable D.C. Region

    White House officials announced the U.S. Department of Energy’s selection of the National Capital Region as one of 16 national Climate Action Champions, recognizing local and regional efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance climate resilience. The region’s application for this competitive process was submitted by COG in collaboration with its local government members.
