COG's podcast, Think Regionally, raises awareness about metropolitan Washington's biggest challenges and focuses on solutions. The podcast, which is hosted by former Washington Post columnist Robert McCartney, features local government, business, and non-profit leaders talking about a variety of timely topics, including the region's economy, racial equity, transportation, housing, and climate change.

    A new report approved by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) Board of Directors reveals a slight increase in the number of area residents who are chronically homeless, and establishes new methods for providing better data and tracking solutions for homelessness in the region.

    An estimated 4,400 residents of the National Capital Region participated in “Bike to Work Day” to promote a healthy and environmentally-friendly commuting alternative that reduces road congestion. The event drew 1,400 more riders than it did last year.

    The Metropolitan Washington Air Quality Committee (MWAQC) approved its revised air quality plan, paving the way for state air agencies to submit the plan to the Environmental Protection Agency for approval. The move followed a 30-day period for public comment that ended in January.

    The Transportation Planning Board (TPB) has developed a comprehensive summary of transportation needs for the next six years. The Board is working to coordinate efforts at the federal, state, regional and local levels to help prepare roadways and transit systems for projected growth of more than 30 % over the next 25 years.
