During a special briefing sponsored by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG), the Greater Washington Board of Trade (BOT) and the American Red Cross of the National Capital Region, employers and government officials in metropolitan Washington were advised to adopt strong security measures and always report suspicious behavior to law enforcement officials.

Area officials gathered on November 18 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Transportation Planning Board (TPB). The TPB was created in 1965 by the region's local and state governments to respond to federal highway legislation requiring the establishment of a "continuing, comprehensive and coordinated" transportation planning process in every urbanized area in the country.
