Introducing Collaboration in Action, COG's video series hosted by Executive Director Clark Mercer. The series spotlights COG's work with member jurisdictions and private, nonprofit, and civic organizations on a wide variety of programs and initiatives that improve the quality of life for everyone in our DMV region. Come along as Clark takes you behind the scenes of several of our initiatives, spreading the word about the value of regional partnership and highlighting the leaders and experts in our network that are making a positive impact in our communities.

COG Podcast

Prior to Collaboration in Action, COG produced a podcast, Think Regionally, to raise awareness about metropolitan Washington's biggest challenges and focus on solutions. The podcast, which was hosted by former Washington Post columnist Robert McCartney, featured local government, business, and non-profit leaders talking about a variety of timely topics, including the region's economy, racial equity, transportation, housing, and climate change.

Get to know the 2017 TPB Citizens Advisory Committee

At its January 18 meeting, the TPB approved the newly appointed members to its Citizens Advisory Committee for 2017. The CAC’s two main charges are to promote public involvement in transportation planning for the region and to provide independent, region-oriented citizen advice to the TPB on transportation plans and issues.

Changes are coming to the way the TPB analyzes transportation equity

TPB planners are working on a new approach to analyzing the region’s long-range transportation plan to satisfy long-standing federal Title VI requirements and Environmental Justice guidelines. These federal measures aim to protect minority and low-income populations from discrimination and disproportionate adverse impacts of federally funded programs.

ICYMI: Jan. 18 TPB Meeting

The TPB took a few formal actions at its January 18 meeting, including appointing new members to its Citizens Advisory Committee. It also discussed the next phase of work of its Long-Range Plan Task Force. The board deferred until February a final vote to endorse a map that will aid in assessing the impacts of the region’s transportation plans on low-income and minority communities.

A Multi-Sector Working Group (MSWG) of subject matter experts from local governments and regional and state transportation, planning, and environmental agencies convened by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) has developed a set of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions-reduction strategies in the Energy and Built Environment, Land Use, and Transportation sectors for the metropolitan Washington region.
