The series spotlights COG's work with member jurisdictions and private, nonprofit, and civic organizations on a wide variety of programs and initiatives that improve the quality of life for everyone in our DMV region. Come along as Clark takes you behind the scenes of several of our initiatives, spreading the word about the value of regional partnership and highlighting the leaders and experts in our network that are making a positive impact in our communities.

COG Podcast

Prior to Collaboration in Action, COG produced a podcast, Think Regionally, to raise awareness about metropolitan Washington's biggest challenges and focus on solutions. The podcast, which was hosted by former Washington Post columnist Robert McCartney, featured local government, business, and non-profit leaders talking about a variety of timely topics, including the region's economy, racial equity, transportation, housing, and climate change.

    For the past several years COG has tracked the region’s progress in addressing climate change and meeting the ambitious goals of its 2008 National Capital Region Climate Change Report . In this year’s Climate and Energy Progress Report COG for the first time also compared metropolitan Washington to other regions around the nation.

    At its October meeting, members of the Transportation Planning Board voted to approve the 2014 Constrained Long-Range Transportation Plan (CLRP), which includes all regionally significant transportation projects and programs that are planned in metropolitan Washington between 2015 and 2040.

    Concerted Action Leads to Major Improvements in Region's Air Quality

    Ground-level ozone concentrations in the Washington region exceeded healthy levels on just four days each of the last two summers, down from 43 such "exceedance" days as recently as the summer of 2007, and 67 during the summer of 1998.

    Washington, DC – The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments presented the First Annual Climate and Energy Leadership Awards to the City of Falls Church, the City of Rockville, Prince William County, and Loudoun County Public Schools for their outstanding efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase energy efficiency.
