TPB News Championing traffic incident management in the National Capital Region Nov 8, 2016 At some point, most drivers have experienced a traffic back-up caused by a crash or some other incident. The faster that first responders can get to the scene and the sooner the incident is cleared, the sooner the rest of traffic can move along its way. At a recent half-day conference, TPB members and other regional officials gathered to learn more about ongoing traffic incident management efforts in the region and what leaders can do to champion further enhancements.
TPB News A final vote on the 2016 CLRP Amendment is coming up at the Nov. 16 TPB meeting Nov 8, 2016 The Transportation Planning Board is scheduled to meet at noon on Wednesday, November 16. The main action at the meeting will be a final series of votes to amend the region’s Constrained Long-Range Transportation Plan (CLRP) and approve a two-year update of the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP)—both of which are core TPB responsibilities under federal metropolitan planning regulations.
TPB News Campaign reminds us that shorter days require more caution on the roads Nov 8, 2016 The region’s Street Smart pedestrian and bicyclist safety awareness program kicked off its fall campaign November 4 reminding drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians that the shorter days of fall and winter require more caution to stay safe. Twice a year the TPB along with its member jurisdictions work with law enforcement to raise awareness of the importance of traffic safety laws in keeping all travelers safe.

The TPB is looking for new members to serve on its Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC). The CAC's two main charges are to promote public involvement in transportation planning for the region and to provide independent, region-oriented citizen advice to the TPB on transportation plans and issues.

News Highlight Leggett, Long receive Institute for Regional Excellence awards Nov 2, 2016 Fairfax County Executive Ed Long received the 2016 Visionary Leadership Award from COG's Institute for Regional Excellence (IRE) during a graduation ceremony on October 7. The prize recognizes top government officials for their outstanding contributions to the region and their home jurisdictions. Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett was selected by the IRE cohort of students as recipient of the Inspiring Leader Award.
