More than 10,000 local commuters will leave their cars at home for Bike to Work Day 2024, which is being held this Friday, May 17. Coordinated by COG’s Commuter Connections program and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA), Bike to Work Day encourages commuters to choose a healthier lifestyle while also helping to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality.

More than 100 pit stops are scattered throughout DC, Maryland, and Virginia, ready to fuel riders with snacks and great giveaways. Participants can score a free commemorative T-shirt and a shot at winning a brand-new bike just for registering and stopping by (limited to the first 16,000 registrants). Many pit stops will also offer free bike tune-ups and other fun activities. Register free at https://www.biketoworkmetrodc.org/.

"This is more than just a two-wheeled commute – it's a celebration," says Daniel Sheehan, COG Commuter Connections Director. "Bike to Work Day lets us experience the joy of cycling, the power of healthy commuting habits, and the positive impact we can have on our environment. We hope to see lots of cyclists hit the trails and streets throughout the metropolitan Washington region tomorrow."

Commuter Connections and WABA are also pleased to announce that many elected officials and other VIP’s will be joining the festivities at the designated pit stops below. This is a fantastic opportunity for cyclists to connect with their local representatives.
