At its meeting today, the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) at the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) approved funding for 23 projects that support mobility for older adults and individuals with disabilities across the region. The $10.2 million of funding from the Federal Transit Administration’s Enhanced Mobility program removes barriers to transportation services and expands transportation mobility options.
The awarded projects fall under the two categories: vehicle acquisition and “all other” projects including mobility management and operating services. 18 of the 23 projects are for vehicle acquisition, which will fund 53 vehicles to provide service to eligible clients.
“It’s with a great sense of pride that our board gets to prioritize and select these valuable projects that help expand transportation access for all of our residents and create more inclusive, connected communities,” said TPB Chair and Charles County Commissioner President Reuben B. Collins, II.
At least every two years, the TPB solicits Enhanced Mobility grant applications. A selection committee, comprised of aging, disability, transit, and human services experts, reviewed and recommended projects for TPB approval. Since 2014, the TPB has approved more than $36 million in Enhanced Mobility funding.
