The D.C. metro area will be showing its love for the planet tomorrow, as more than 4,700 residents and commuters have pledged to go car free or car lite for Car Free Day 2023. Businesses across the area are getting involved too, offering discounts and prizes to those who participate by taking public transit, biking, walking, or carpooling.

"We're excited to see the continued commitment from our community to Car Free Day," said Nicholas Ramfos, Director of Commuter Connections, a program of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG). "Going car free or car lite for just one day can make a real difference in reducing traffic congestion, improving air quality, and embracing a healthy lifestyle.”

Take the pledge to go car free or car lite today, show support for a more sustainable future for our metropolitan Washington region, and enjoy a day in the crisp fall air. Residents can still sign up to take the pledge through Friday. Take the free pledge at www.carfreemetrodc.org to be counted in the event and be entered for a chance to win great prizes.

All participants in this year’s Car Free Day receive a $30 Nift Gift credit to spend at participating local businesses and national brands through October 31, 2023, along with 50 percent off orders at All About Burger and a free Capital Bikeshare Day Pass on Car Free Day. Plus, pledge participants will be automatically eligible to win great raffle prizes, such as a Samsung tablet, gift cards to popular restaurants and stores, annual memberships, transit passes, and more!
