Thousands of DC area residents pledge to go car free

Sep 22, 2022

Today, more than 4,000 commuters and residents in the metropolitan Washington region have taken the pledge to go car free or car-lite to help the region reduce traffic congestion and embrace a healthy lifestyle. Many are choosing alternative transportation modes like carpooling, walking, bicycling, or taking transit.

“We’re excited to see the commitment and enthusiasm from community members for Car Free Day,” said Nicholas Ramfos, Commuter Connections Director, a program of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG). “Pledging to opt out of single occupancy car rides, even for just a day, makes a real impact in reducing traffic and improving air quality and our collective health.”
