Car Free Day 2022 Registration Opens: Take Your Foot off the Gas and Take the Pledge to go Car Free

Aug 5, 2022

Registration opened this week for metropolitan Washington’s Car Free Day 2022, an annual event organized by Commuter Connections. Residents, commuters, and students across the region have the opportunity to win prizes by pledging to go car free or car lite at carfreemetrodc.org. Car Free Day is a part of a larger international event that aims to reduce traffic congestion, enhance air quality, and improve physical health through promoting active modes of transportation. The event will take place throughout the day on Thursday, September 22.

Here’s how it works: participants take a free online pledge to reduce single occupancy trips on September 22 by finding an alternative way to travel such as public transit, biking, carpooling, vanpooling, scootering, walking, or forgoing work travel by teleworking. Each registrant who takes the free online pledge will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win great prizes from this year’s list of sponsors.

“Car Free Day is an important event for our region and presents an opportunity for us to come together and reduce our overall traffic congestion by pledging to take alternative transportation modes like riding the bus, Metrorail, or carpooling with friends and family,” said Commuter Connections Director Nicholas Ramfos. “We encourage everyone to take the pledge to go car free on September 22 and embrace more sustainable ways to travel back into the office, school, or anywhere they need to go.”

Taking the free pledge is fast and easy at carfreemetrodc.org. Everyone who takes the pledge will be sent a $30 promocode from Neighborhood Gift (Nift) to spend at local neighborhood businesses. Plus, all who take the pledge will be automatically eligible to win great prizes such as a Samsung tablet, gift cards to popular restaurants, annual memberships, transit passes, and more!

Stay up to date and share your participation on Facebook and Twitter by following @CarFreeMetroDC and using #CarFreeDay across social media apps.
