With one day to go until Bike to Work Day (BTWD) 2022, more than 10,000 commuters are shifting into gear for the regional celebration on Friday, May 20–as registration remains open.

The free, annual event co-sponsored by Commuter Connections and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) features nearly 100 pit stops located throughout Washington, D.C., suburban Maryland, and Northern Virginia. Pit stops will pump up riders with food, giveaways, and big-ticket raffle prizes that include brand new bicycles. Plus, the first 15,000 registrants who attend will receive a BTWD 2022 commemorative t-shirt.

Registering for the event is fast, free, and easy at www.biketoworkmetrodc.org.

Interest in the 2022 event continues to gain speed right up until the big day, with registration totals already surpassing the successful 2021 event.

“Gas prices hit historic, record-setting highs just last week. What better time to try out or resume bicycling to work?” said Commuter Connections Director Nicholas Ramfos. “Bike to Work Day saves commuters money, improves our health, helps the environment, and reduces our region’s notorious traffic congestion–all while having a great time as a community.”

Anyone considering riding their bike to work for the first time can join with experienced bicyclists on the day of the event. By visiting the event website, registered riders can view convoy routes from volunteer bicycle commuters who will lead bicycle convoys.

Free registration for Bike to Work Day is available at www.biketoworkmetrodc.org or by calling (800) 745-RIDE. Follow Commuter Connections on Twitter at @BikeToWorkDay and Facebook at @BikeToWorkDayMetroDC and use #BTWD2022.

Several regional sponsors supported this year’s Bike to Work Day event, including: Gold Sponsors ICF and Urban Stems; and Silver Sponsors National Landing, BikeArlington, BicycleSPACE, Verra, City Dental DC, and Bilton Law Firm.

Combine biking to work with extra peace of mind by signing up for the Commuter Connections Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) Program, which provides commuters with up to six free rides home a year when one of life’s unexpected emergencies arise. Full GRH details and free sign-up information are available at www.commuterconnections.org.
