This week, District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, and Virginia Governor Ralph Northam urged Americans not to come into Washington, D.C. for the Inauguration of President-elect Joseph R. Biden, Jr. and Vice President-elect Kamala D. Harris and to instead participate virtually. Today, officials on the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, an association representing 24 local governments in the D.C. region, issued the following statement to amplify this message to their constituents.
"Given last week's attack on the U.S. Capitol, threats of additional violence, and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are asking residents of the metropolitan Washington region to not travel to Washington, D.C. for the Inauguration on January 20 and to participate virtually.
“Together, we will overcome these challenging times and look forward to collaborating with the incoming Administration to shape a safer, healthier, more equitable and resilient region and nation.”
