COG hosted a gathering of more than 100 area leaders—representatives from local governments, businesses, nonprofits, and civic associations—for a regional conversation with Amazon on its plans to locate its new headquarters in Arlington.

The conversation featured a guest panel, including Holly Sullivan, Amazon’s Head of Worldwide Economic Development, that discussed and took questions on a variety of topics, including incentives and Amazon’s economic impacts, the headquarters development, job creation and workforce development, and the company’s approach to working with the community on housing, transportation, and sustainability.

The February 21 event at George Mason University’s Arlington Campus was also livestreamed and the virtual audience provided additional questions for the panel.

COG Executive Director Chuck Bean, who served as the moderator of the panel, said that the conversation was an opportunity to bring leaders together to think regionally about ensuring "the benefits from the new headquarters are spread throughout metropolitan Washington." He also noted that COG is sharply focused on helping governments plan for future growth, including Amazon.
