The National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) voted at its December meeting to elect its officers for 2019, including Prince William County Supervisor Martin Nohe as TPB Chairman, and City of Frederick Alderman Kelly Russell and District of Columbia Councilmember Charles Allen as TPB Vice Chairmen.
Nohe joined the TPB in 2016 and was a Vice Chairman in 2018. Russell has served on the TPB since 2014 and served as second Vice Chairman in 2018. Allen was TPB Chairman in 2018 and first became a board member in 2015.
Over the last year, the three officers have been involved in the TPB’s adoption of its new long-range transportation plan for the region, Visualize 2045. For the first time, the board included a set of unfunded aspirational initiatives in the plan that aim to address future transportation challenges.
“As Chairman, I will work to continue the momentum of the TPB’s work this year, especially in advancing Visualize 2045,” said Nohe. “From addressing traffic congestion to safety, the TPB is committed to working together to improve mobility and accessibility for everyone in the region.”
The TPB is the federally designated metropolitan planning organization for metropolitan Washington. Working with local, state, regional, and federal partners, the TPB coordinates future plans, provides data and analysis to decision makers, and manages regional programs to advance safety, land-use coordination, and more. In order to receive federal funding, transportation projects and programs must be included in the TPB’s regional plans. The TPB is housed at and staffed by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG).
