The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) Institute for Regional Excellence (IRE) in partnership with the George Washington University (GWU) Center for Excellence in Public Leadership are offering one-day leadership training courses this fall in leadership, and strategic thinking.
Professionals employed by COG’s member jurisdictions and partnering agencies can register for these highly-rated programs at a discounted rate. These short courses are taught by “pracademics”—including those who have been senior leaders in local government.
COG/GWU Regional Training Courses
Strategic Thinking in the 21st Century –Oct. 19
A one-day class for professionals at any level that cultivates sharper strategic thinking. Participants will be introduced to methods for applying strategic thinking principles in their own organizations.
Front Line Leadership – Nov. 1
A one-day class for supervisors and team leaders that focuses on the Five Practices of Exemplary leadership. Participants will conduct a self-assessment of their leadership capabilities, and walk away with individual leadership development plans.

GWU Open Class Offerings
In addition, COG affiliates and IRE REDP graduates can now access additional open course offerings by GWU—ranging from three-day workshops to certificate programs. These are also available at a discounted rate.

COG and GWU also partner to offer the IRE Regional Executive Development Program (REDP). Through this prestigious year-long program, more than 365 regional leaders have earned their Certified Public Managers designation.
