The Transportation Planning Board’s March meeting was rescheduled to Wednesday, March 29, due to inclement weather. An updated agenda and meeting materials will be posted on the Thursday before the meeting. Here’s a recap of what's coming up:

Equity Emphasis Areas map and methodology endorsement. TPB staff have developed a new approach to assessing whether the region’s long-range transportation plan will have disproportionate adverse impacts on low-income and minority populations. The board first reviewed the proposed approach in January and will be asked to formally endorse it at the March meeting. Get highlights from the board’s January discussion.

Long-Range Plan Task Force work scope approval. The board will consider for final approval a draft work scope formally establishing the purpose and mission of the task force. Broadly, the task force is working to identify transportation priorities above and beyond what is included in the region’s financially constrained long-range transportation plan (CLRP).  Read more about last month’s discussion.

Approval of FY 2018 work plans and budgets. The board will review the draft work plans and budgets for both the TPB and the TPB’s Commuter Connections program for the coming fiscal year, which begins July 1. The proposed budget to carry out all elements of the TPB’s draft work plan is $16.5 million. The draft Commuter Connections budget is $5.9 million.

Approval of FY 2017-2022 TIP amendments. The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) has proposed an amendment to add $560 million in funding for replacement of the Governor Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has proposed adjustments in funding to a number of smaller projects throughout Northern Virginia.
