Scott Boggs, a highly respected public safety expert and regional leader, has been named Managing Director of Homeland Security and Public Safety for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG).

Boggs previously served Prince William County’s Fire and Rescue Department for 26 years, most recently in the role of Battalion Chief. His assignments also included Operations, Special Operations, Public Safety Communications, and the Fire Marshal’s Office.

For the past year, Boggs led COG’s regional efforts to improve interoperable communications and develop new safety protocols and enhance emergency communications for Metro.  He also actively assisted COG’s 9-1-1 Directors Committee.  

“Scott Boggs is respected for his expertise and experience across all areas of public safety, and we are pleased to be welcoming him on board,” said Chuck Bean, COG Executive Director. “He is a seasoned manager who will hit the ground running with his knowledge of the region and COG.”

In addition to chairing COG’s Public Safety and Communications Subcommittee, Boggs is recognized for his expertise among members of COG’s Police Chiefs Committee, Fire Chiefs Committee, and Emergency Managers Committee. He has also been actively engaged in the training and mentoring of public safety personnel in Prince William County and across the region.

Boggs officially joined COG on January 3.
