The Transportation Planning Board is scheduled to meet at noon on Wednesday, December 21. The official agenda and all meeting materials will be posted on the Thursday before the meeting. Here’s a quick preview of what’s coming up:

A visit by the Baltimore region MPO. Members of the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board (BRTB), the Baltimore region’s equivalent of the TPB, will attend the December meeting. BRTB Staff Director Todd Lang and current BRTB Chairman Allan Kittleman will speak at the meeting, with a focus on highlighting ongoing coordination efforts between the TPB and the BRTB.

New methodology for Environmental Justice analysis. Staff have developed a new methodology for identifying areas with higher concentrations of low-income and minority individuals for use in the TPB’s federally required environmental justice analysis. Under federal law, the TPB must demonstrate that the region’s major transportation investments will not have disproportionate negative impacts on vulnerable groups. The board will be asked to approve the proposed map of “Communities of Concern” at its meeting in January.

Results from the latest air passenger survey. The TPB surveyed more than 24,000 air passengers at BWI, Dulles, and Reagan National airports to learn about those travelers’ choice of airport, mode of access to the airport, demographics, and more. The TPB conducts the survey every two years to help airport officials and local, state, and regional planners understand what improvements need to be made to maximize the benefit the airports bring to the region.

New TPB officers for 2017. A nominating committee appointed by current TPB Chairman Tim Lovain will announce the names of the three board members it has nominated to serve as board officers for 2017. The board will vote at its December meeting to approve the nominations. The terms of the new officers will begin January 1.
