Leggett, Long receive Institute for Regional Excellence awards

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett was presented with the 2016 Inspiring Leader Award from the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments' (COG) Institute for Regional Excellence (IRE) on October 7. Fairfax County Executive Ed Long was honored with the 2016 IRE Visionary Leadership Award. 

The prizes recognize top government officials for their outstanding contributions to the region and their home jurisdictions. They were presented during the IRE graduation ceremony for 30 new Certified Public Managers. 

Leggett, who is serving his third term as Montgomery County Executive, was recognized by IRE participants as an advocate for regional economic development and achievement.

Long was appointed as Fairfax County Executive in 2012, and has also served as Deputy County Executive and Chief Financial Officer. Long has been recognized many times for his public service contributions, including receiving Fairfax County’s highest employee recognition award.

IRE, in cooperation with George Washington University, offers a graduate–level Certified Public Manager training program. More than 350 participants have completed the program.
