Visualize 2045: Project Map

Apr 01, 2022

The financially constrained element of the update to Visualize 2045, TPB’s long-range transportation plan, includes regionally significant projects and programs that seek to efficiently move people and goods using a variety of transportation modes. This interactive map provides information about those planned investments.

The TPB has a broad set of transportation goals, and every day a large portfolio of work is underway throughout the region to help make progress on those goals. This work includes moving forward a variety of transportation projects and programs, as well as transportation and land-use policies.

Federal law requires some projects to be included in a specific part of Visualize 2045—what is referred to as the ‘constrained element’ of the plan. This is a list of projects, policies and programs that are a subset of all the transportation work in the region. Typically, the projects in the constrained element are regionally significant road and transit improvements, although these projects often include many other components, such as freight or bicycle and pedestrian enhancements. To receive federal funding, regionally significant projects must be included in the constrained element project list.

To learn more about projects around the region, click on a project on the map to view the project details, which will appear in a panel to the left of the map. Use the Layers button on the left side panel to turn layers on or off. The Home button on the map will revert to showing all projects.

Bicycle and pedestrian projects are summarized in the 2022 Update of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan for the National Capital Region

Footnote: This interactive map includes most but not all projects in the constrained element as not all projects are mappable, and the projects mapped based on data made available by project sponsor. All projects cost are best available data as of April 1, 2022.
