In light of Ron Kirby’s tragic death, Chairman York has canceled the November 20, 2013 meeting of the Transportation Planning Board. The next TPB meeting is on December 18, and a portion of the agenda will be devoted to remembering Ron and his contributions to improving our region’s transportation system.

Ron’s final update of the Regional Transportation Priorities Plan document will be distributed in early December. At the December 18 meeting, the Board will be briefed on the revisions to the document in response to comments received. At the January 15th meeting, approval of the draft of the RTPP document is expected to be addressed on the TPB agenda.

Regarding the three action items that were slated to be on the November meeting agenda, Chairman York, subject to any objection, has acted as follows:

  • Chairman York has appointed Mr. Todd Turner (chair), Ms. Muriel Bowser, and Mr. David Snyder as the Nominating Committee for year 2014 TPB officers. The TPB Bylaws provide for TPB officers to serve for one calendar year, from January 1 through December 31. The Nominating Committee will be asked to present a slate of year 2014 officers for action by the Board at its December 18 meeting.
  • At the October 16 meeting, the Board was briefed on the draft Call for Projects document and schedule for the air quality conformity assessment for the 2014 CLRP and FY 2015-2020 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The final Call for Projects document has been approved for distribution to state, regional, and local agencies.
  • Since the FY 2014 UPWP was approved in March, the funding allocations provided by DDOT, MDOT and VDOT have been revised to reflect changes in new FY 2014 funding and adjustments in the unobligated FY 2012 funding. The Technical Committee and state DOTs have been briefed on an amendment to revise the budget and work elements to reflect the funding changes. Resolution R8-2014 to amend the FY 2014 UPWP to revise the budget and work elements has been approved. This amendment will be reviewed at the TPB Steering Committee meeting on December 6.
