Time To Act
Feb 12, 2004
Summary
The TPB has identified $13.2 billion in total unfunded transportation needs over the six year period from 2005 to 2010 in the
District of Columbia,
Northern Virginia, Suburban Maryland, and
for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.
These unfunded needs
are outlined in the
brochure “Time to Act”
. As state legislatures and Congress consider new transportation legislation and funding measures, serious transportation funding shortfalls and a looming gridlock crisis threaten the metropolitan Washington region’s stature as a premier place to live, work, and do business. In response, the TPB has developed a comprehensive summary of transportation needs for the next six years. The Board is working to coordinate efforts at the federal, state, regional and local levels to help prepare roadways and transit systems for projected growth of more than 30 percent over the next 25 years.
