Technical Assistance Panels

COG provides assistance to help its local government members create vibrant and thriving communities through a number of programs, including its partnership with ULI-Washington to fund Technical Assistance Panels (TAPs).

TAPs provide local government awardees with tailored advice and recommendations on a particular project or location from a panel of experts from the real estate, finance, planning, transportation, engineering, and design fields. Projects will focus on Equity Emphasis Areas (EEAs), High-Capacity Transit Station Areas (HCTs), and Activity Centers.

Over an intensive one-and-a-half day workshop, the panelists develop strategies to address a particular land use or development challenge and maximize the impacts of investment. Past TAPs have addressed issues such as walkability and revitalization of a mall at a Metro station, land assemblage strategies at a suburban shopping center, and commercial development and placemaking along a major urban transit corridor.
