At its November meeting, the COG Board of Directors focused on two recent regional housing reports, Joining Forces to Combat Foreclosure: A Look Back at the Capital Area Foreclosure Network and Housing Security in the Washington Region.
The Capital Area Foreclosure Network (CAFN) was formed as a partnership between the Council of Governments and the Nonprofit Roundtable of Greater Washington to combat the foreclosure crisis that resulted from the Great Recession. Joining Forces looks back at the effectiveness of the program to stymie the wave of foreclosures in the region through capacity building of housing counselors and programs.
Housing Security is a first-of-its-kind report examining affordable housing needs from homelessness to home ownership on a jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction basis. The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region commissioned the study with generous support from The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation. The study was researched and prepared by the Urban Institute and the Council of Governments.
