WASHINGTON, DC - Members of the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) were briefed today on the projects submitted for inclusion in the 2012 Financially Constrained Long Range Transportation Plan (CLRP) and the Fiscal Year 2013-2018 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The CLRP and the TIP guide the region's long-term and immediate transportation investments respectively.

The significant additions and changes to the CLRP and TIP include:

• Creating the Southeast Boulevard from 11th Street Bridge to Barney Circle (estimated completion in 2015)
• Adding Bus Rapid Transit from the Van Dorn Metro Station to the Pentagon Metro Station (estimated completion in 2016)
• Adding a I-395 Auxiliary Lane, northbound from Duke Street to Seminary Road (estimated completion in 2015)
• Moving up completion date on segments of I-495 HOT and Auxiliary Lanes (estimated completion in 2013)
• Removing the widening of US 29 from US 50 to Eaton Place
• Adding the Manassas National Battlefield Park Bypass (estimated completion in 2035)

The TPB released the call for project submissions for the CLRP and TIP updates on October 19, 2011. Submissions were reviewed by the TPB's Technical Committee on January 6, 2012 and the selected projects were released at a public meeting on January 12, 2012 for a 30-day public comment period that will end February 11. At its February 15 meeting, the TPB will vote on approval of the project submissions.

The CLRP identifies all regionally significant transportation projects and programs that are planned in the metropolitan Washington region between 2012 and 2040. To learn more about the CLRP and the process of project submission and approval, click here.
