Higher Education Scholarship Program Receives Professional Development Award

Dec 11, 2003

The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) received the Mayor's Quality Partners Award for Professional Development at a ceremony held on December 9, 2003 at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C.  Executive Director David Robertson accepted the award on behalf of COG.

COG was recognized by the D.C. Childcare Corporation, a public-private childcare partnership that involves major corporations and the federal and District of Columbia governments.  COG received the award for its Higher Education Scholarship Program (HESP), which seeks to improve the quality of childcare by providing tuition assistance and mentoring support to childcare managers and working looking to enhance their education and training.  More than 200 childcare managers and workers have been awarded HESP support by COG since the program was founded in 1999.
