Description: The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments is seeking a student interested in transportation demand management (TDM) issues to assist with implementing the regional Commuter Connections program.  Program element components include the Commuter Operations Center, Regional Mass Marketing, Employer Outreach, Employer Outreach for Bicycling, Guaranteed Ride Home, and Telework programs.  Primary responsibilities of the position will include program survey data collection and analysis, Regional TDM Marketing Group and Commuter Connections Subcommittee and related subcommittee meeting logistics, documentation and follow up on various action items, and providing assistance with special events.   Intern may also be called to respond to client requests in the Commuter Operations Center, provide assistance for the Regional Mass Marketing project, and provide daily support activities for all project work elements within Commuter Connections.

 

The opportunity will exist for the qualified applicant to assist in the implementation and analysis of voluntary transportation demand management programs associated with Commuter Connections.  Involvement in the project elements within Commuter Connections could include assisting in the preparation and presentation of program results, assistance in the update of a regional strategic marketing plan, and involvement in public relations and advertising pertaining to the Regional Mass Marketing project and related Commuter Connections program services.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicant should be an undergraduate student in marketing, public relations, advertising, political science, business management or related field.  Interest in transportation demand management services helpful.  Must be proficient in word processing.  The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others.  Good judgment, initiative and tact as well as a good telephone manner and willing attitude in interfacing with staff and local government clients are required.  Marketing and special event experience is a plus.  Computer experience with web and social and digital marketing is preferred.
